Choosing The Right Chain Harrow

Remember to choose a chain harrow that is the width of the towing vehicle or wider to ensure wheel marks are removed. We offer two types of chain harrow, fixed

13mm fixed steel tine mats feature a one-way pulling action

This lower costing harrow uses an aggressive action and will achieve good results.

3-way trailed harrows feature a 3-way pulling action giving you the option to choose passive, aggresive or smooth to suit your ground conditions.

Passive - reverse the mat so tines face backwards to give less ground penetration and a smoother action.

Aggressive - ensure tines face forwards for vigorious, deeper ground penetration, ideal for harder ground

Lighter - turn the mat upside for lighter harrowing - ideal for re-seeding.

Heavy Duty Drawbar

Heavy duty drawbars are 60mm diameter by 5mm thickness, with a starting weight of 14kg. They are fully detachable to allow for easier handling.

We strongly recommend all trailed harrows over 6ft wide have a drawbar of this quality and strength.

The weight, size and type of chain harrow determines the performance; 13mm tines will ensure your harrow lasts for many years. We offer a 3 year warranty as standard on all our trailed harrows. Other suppliers offer cheaper chain harrows but you may get thinner and/or less tines so you might want to check the weight before you make a decision.

 

CHOOSE THE CHAIN HARROW WIDTH

Each chain harrow (either 5ft deep or 10ft deep) allows mat combinations of up to 12ft wide. Ensure your harrow is wider than your towing vehicle to keep a safe distance from the edge of your area and to remove tyre marks. STANDARD AND HEAVY DUTY DRAWBARS

The drawbars are fully detachable to allow for easier handling and the the extra weight improves levelling by keeping the mats on the ground optimising the effectiveness of the harrow.

Our drawbars are available for 4ft, 5ft, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft and 12ft harrows to suit your chosen combination of fixed tine or 3-way tine mats.

We strongly recommend all trailed harrows over 6ft wide have a heavy duty drawbar of this quality and strength.

REASONS FOR HARROWING

Chain harrowing generally starts in the Spring and follows through to Autumn and the land is usually rolled afterwards.
